Verdict: WATCH – if desperate
It’s 1am. You can’t sleep. And you’ve been staring at Netflix for 3 hours without actually watching anything? Then fine, go watch Let’s Marry Harry.
This is the bar and it’s not very high.
However, Let’s Marry Harry is an interesting watch for a few reasons.
First thing’s first: if you’re genuinely interested in seeing a bachelour who wants to settle down, and 20 girls who are looking for love – you might as well watch something else. If, on the other hand, you’re fascinated by what these people are actually doing there – things become more interesting.
Starting with the ladies. Did they show up for Harry himself? For the experience? How about just straight up fame and fortune? Or maybe just a once in a lifetime chance to be on tv? Not necessarily seeking anything beyond that. All those seem obvious enough, but I think there’s a more interesting angle.
Putting yourself out there when you look your best and present your best, could be the ideal launch pad for finding your next partner. However successful some of these girls might be on dating apps, and maybe even instagram, there’s just no comparison. A show like this gets more attention than they could ever imagine.
I don’t have the data here, but I can imagine their love lives got a lot more interesting after the show. That’s been the case over the years with all these bachelor type shows.
Back to the show itself. While the idea of genuinely dating a guy who’s dating 19 other girls is ridiculous, the survivor-like part of the show makes it interesting.
Let’s Marry Harry is a game, and a game has winners and losers. In this case, 1 winner and 19 losers. The immediate goal might not even be to win the whole thing. Just progress to the next round, get the rose (or the ring), try not to embarrass yourself on TV. And finally, let’s be honest, do better than the other girls.
Once we all stop pretending this is a dating show about finding love, and see it for what it is – Let’s Marry Harry can be a fun watch.
